2081: Everyone Will Finally Be Equal

Posted by Unknown | Monday, September 29, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

I just ran into this trailer on VideoSift, it appears the story of Harrison Bergeron has been redone.

The film is based from from a Vonnegut short story, you can read the whole thing here, it's your classic tale of government controlled equality gone nuts.

The trailer looks pretty good. Here is the official website.

Now this tale has been made into a film once before back in the 90's starring Samwise Gamgee.

James Dean Irony

Posted by Unknown | Monday, September 29, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

While working on the September 30 Page, I found out James Dean died in a car crash on that day. Well I knew he died in a car crash, it just so happened on September 30 1955.
I checked out the Mahalo page on James Dean and found this interesting clip. A driving safety PSA.

Bill Maher on TDS Tomorrow

Posted by Unknown | Monday, September 29, 2008 | , , | 0 comments »

I just found out that the Great Bill Maher will be on TDS Tomorrow to talk about his upcoming film Religulous, which is great news. I can't remember when Bill Maher had previously been on TDS, I don't remember ever seeing Stewart and Maher together before. I did a search and found only one interview dating back to 1999.

***Check this out, after watching the clip I was curious to see if I could find a clip of the "Politically Incorrect" discussion (with Lennox Lewis, Chris Rock and Ann Coulter) that they were talking about..well here it is for your viewing pleasure.

John McCain was Wrong

Posted by Unknown | Saturday, September 27, 2008 | , , | 0 comments »

John McCain enjoys pointing out how right he was about the Surge. Barack Obama during last nights debate reminded McCain that the war started in 2003, not 2007. Then goes ahead and lists all the things McCain got wrong.

Here is a great mashup that provides video evidence to each point.

September 27, 1999: Moment of Zen - Buchanan

The best part of about building the "Today in History" pages is being able to look for historical videos from the web, sure these clips won't get a million views but there is a small audience there who do really appreciate the unearthing of these clips.

For example, today I started building the September 27 Mahalo page and learned that on this day in 1964, the Warren Commission report was made public, CBS had their own commercial free special to discuss the report and all the questions surrounding the assassination of JFK. Sure enough, I was able to find the CBS report and now it's forever archived under Mahalo pages related to the topic.

Here are a couple related topics that need some Internet Research.

Moment of Zen - September 26

Posted by Unknown | Friday, September 26, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

I just had my own moment of zen... The TDS Moment of Zen is a perfect way to end each Today in History page.

The TDS Archive makes it nice and easy to find Moments of Zen throughout TDS History and now the Mahalo TiH pages will include, Moments of Zen...from that day history.

Now, I have to embed them here in order for myself to view them (Long story, has to do with my nationality) but I want to pick the best one each day to represent the new Section on the page. So for September 26, one of the videos will be embedded on Mahalo, and each will be linked.

I've got the top Social New Stories Archive up for Sept 21, 2008 here are the links.

I was intrigued by the Top Youtube video, it seems pretty intense and I question why this isn't front page news everywhere, I did some googling and found it was a fella named Johnathan Idema (new Mahalo Page)

ABC did a story about him. New Al Qaeda Tape Surfaces Despite US Efforts to Block It

Al Qaeda's annual September 11 propaganda video surfaced today, delayed eight days by a concerted US effort to block it.
The tape showed no new pictures or statements from Osama bin Laden, although an al Qaeda figure was interviewed saying bin Laden was in "good health."

Al Qaeda also showed a video it said was captured from a US bounty hunter, Keith "Jack" Idema, as he appeared to threaten to kill an Afghani citizen during an interrogation....Read More

Peace Day

Posted by Unknown | Sunday, September 21, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

Today..September 21, is Peace Day, or as I like to call it "what everyday should be." You see, at the UN they will Ring a bell and everybody in the world will stop fighting...an International cease fire... for 10 minutes..then its carry on fight for whatever your fighting for.

Maybe those guys will consider lengthening the holiday, the more peace the better I say. Here is a helpful video of Jeremy Gilley, a filmmaker who actually came up with the idea, Because apparently the brightest political minds of the UN never thought of this before.

Mahalo doesn't have a page about Jeremy Gilley, so I started a page where links can start to be submitted.

Today I posted my first blog post to InternetArchivist.
This is my fourth blog, or is it my fifth? I can't seem to remember. I remember leaving AOL Newsbloggers almost a year ago, or about 8 months, whenever last February was, either way, I left them to join the archiving team at Mahalo and still believe it's been one of the greatest decisions of my online career. I am still with AOL at a smaller level working with the great people at Propeller.com

When I left Newsbloggers, I started up Internet Research League. I had hopes to get others interested in archiving links, however I was just too busy to ever build an audience on a new blog, so I went on hiatus. Now it sits, as a wordpress graveyard it houses my complete blogging archive dating back to 2005 including my super blogging days of ThrowawayyourTV.com and TayTV.com. (Which is where the logo comes from)

This blog will be different, I will post when I have time, but probably only my Archive editions to Mahalo. I'll see if I can pretty up the place and made it enjoyable for anybody who accidentally stumbles in.

About Jeff Hoard

Posted by Unknown | Friday, September 19, 2008 | , , | 0 comments »

My adventure began October 2005 when I purchased the domain name that is essentially my philosophy. ThrowawayyourTV.com. I personally distrust and am done with linear television, after growing up with it in the 80's and 90's the internet seems to be a better more progressive choice. Full of your favourite entertainment and more importantly access to all information about the world I don't understand why more people don't take advantage of this virtual democracy. If the average citizen spent their TV time in front of a computer instead, I think that the world would be better for it. By visiting this website, I promise to offer videos, information and commentary about current events and the world wide media.

Internet Labourer Globe and Mail
Currently I work with Mahalo.com, an Internet Archive startup much to the likes of Wikipedia. The goal is to build an online archive containing the best possible links for every every term concievable on the Internet. I've been with Mahalo full time since February 2008, but I have been using the Internet since the mid-90's.

When I was younger, I started my own online community called “Metro News,” which was a division of metroboards.com hockey community. I created Metro News so that the sports fans at Metroboards had a place where they could discuss more important issues. It turned me into a news junkie.

Unhappy with my day job in Customer service I decided to try and build my dream website, I called it Throwawayyourtv.com (link to the Archive site) in late 2005. The idea was to categorize links under the specific topic that they belonged under, at the time I would say "it's like fark, but with categories for everything". The site never really made it out of pre-bata-alpha.

Late in 2005 I discovered the online bookmark website del.icio.us, but more important was the discovery of Tags and the archiving capabilities that surround them. Around the same time, I discovered Youtube.com and vSocial.com. However, I quickly discovered that the masses who visited these video sites were drawn to the same videos that made me want to throw away my TV in the first place. So, as a service to anybody who hates mass media videos, I turned ThrowawayyourTV.com into a video presentation blog. I simply embed the most interesting videos and rant about how crazy they were, media during the Bush Years was fucked up, and I posted the crazy shit that was going on.

High Brow Guardian UK

In the year that followed, thanks in part to my addiction to bookmarking and the ability to embed video, TayTV became home to over 2,000 videos and was viewed by over millions of people. The labour that fueled my hobby soon turned into a profitable affair and Netscape.com later Propeller.com, who hired me to to steer that labour into their website.

Around this time, TayTV could no longer technically handle the amount of traffic it was getting, it got broken and I could not fix it, and in early 2007, I had no choice but to shut down it down.
